Akyra Murray, youngest victim of Orlando Mass shooting, shouldn't have been in the club

She was only 18 and had just graduated from high school. She had been persuaded by friends to go with them to the Pulse gay nightclub to celebrate her graduation. She didn't come out of there alive.

Many nightclubs bar minors where alcohol is served but Orlando and Pulse Nightclub allow under 21 to enter. Akyra had been dropped at the nightclub with her girlfriend Patience Carter, by her mum.

According to her friends, Akyra was a bright student who graduated third in her class at West Catholic Preparatory High School in Philadelphia. She had plans to attend Mercyhurst University before her life was cut short on Sunday June 12th when Omar Marteen opened fire, killing 49 people.

According to reports, after being shot in the arm by the gunman, Akyra hid from him as he stalked his victims in the club. Frantic, she sent a text to her mother, Natalie Murray, who had dropped her and a girlfriend off at the club at 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

“She doesn’t drink, she just wanted to have a good time,” Natalie told the NY Daily News.

She recalled the chilling text message from her daughter, saying there was a shooting at Pulse.
Natalie called her daughter as she raced back to the club. She told Akyra to apply pressure to the wound and stay calm. Akyra cried for her mother as she hid in a bathroom stall.

Natalie hung up the phone to call 911. She never spoke to her daughter again.

Akyra’s girlfriend, Patience Carter, 20, was also wounded in the attack. The New York University student and musician is expected to recover.

Akyra is the youngest victim of the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

FG to grant N90bn loans to states, bars governors from collecting loans from banks

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, says the Federal government will be granting states a N90 billion loan which is to be paid back within one year. At a meeting with the finance commissioners of the 36 states to discuss the Fiscal Sustainability Plan FSP in Abuja yesterday June 14th, Adeosun said the loan will be given to the state governments after they meet 22 stringent conditions put together by the federal government. According to her, the loan will be in two tranches

"The loan is in two tranches – N50 billion for three months to be shared across the 36 states including FCT and then N40 billion for nine months. The idea is to tie states over for a year so that they rebalance. The loan is an average of about N1.3 billion per state for the first three months and N1.1billion for the next nine months. It is a loan and it is fully repayable although it has a secured tie against future dividends, revenues and any amount that government might owe the states.”she said

She also announced that state governors are not to collect any more loans from banks but should rather source for funds from the capital market. The decision was taken due to the disappointing manner in which some past and present state governors have managed the loans they have taken from some commercial banks. She noted that the stability of the economy in the states would reflect on the economy of the country as a whole.

“Nigeria’s economy is a confederation of the economies of her 36 states and the FCT. Thus, we recognise the critical importance of developing a broad-based economy, with productive activities in every region and state. At the federal level, to create headroom for the urgently needed investment in infrastructure, we are pursuing a very disciplined approach to managing public funds, ensuring the maximisation of revenues and the minimisation of the costs of governance. The Fiscal Sustainability Plan, FSP, replicates this far-reaching public financial management reform programme across all tiers of government and marks a turning point in the management of state finances. By raising the standard for public financial management in the areas of transparency, accountability and efficiency, states will be repositioned to embark on a path towards fiscal independence. On the cost side, the pressure is to cut costs, starting with the commitment to eliminate, once and for all, the menace of ghost workers by BVN checking of payroll and the requirement that all salary payments are made directly to individual accounts. This will enable states control the size of their wage bill and ensure that it is affordable. The formal commitments being made to improve expense management, greater efficiency in recurrent spending and prudent debt management will combine to ensure that states can move towards improved long term financial health. In the area of revenue, the FSP is based on the fundamental principle that each and every state in Nigeria must be economically viable. Accordingly, it recognises the fact that Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, must be maximised and we have extended the definition of revenue beyond the traditional confines of taxes, licences and fees.”she said

See 9 Reasons You Run Out Of Data Before The End Of Your Validity Period

Expired data can be annoying but most annoying and surprising is exhausting data within it validity period, especially when you can’t account for it. There are a few reasons why that could happen and there also a few steps that can help you make the best of your data subscription. check them out below;

1. Because your device syncs non-stop

By default, your email accounts in your android device syncs non-stop. Add your social media apps and messaging apps constantly sending and receiving data, then you will understand why your data will not make it to the end of the month. Go to Settings > Accounts and change the settings of your email accounts from checking for new emails every moment to specific times/days.

2. Because you don’t turn off your data

It’s advisable to turn off your data before going to bed and at other times when you are not using it. But who has the time to monitor data like a toddler? I don’t because I think it’s tedious, but if you can, it will definitely solve your data disappearance problem.

3. Because your service provider is insincere!

I don’t know if this happens elsewhere but right here in Nigeria it does; it’s called data zapping! Your carrier gives you 2 GB data in words but in usage it’s actually a 1 GB data. When you check your data balance you will see 2 GB staring at you but when you download a file of let’s say 2 MB and you check your data again over 4 MB will be missing. NCC please take note.

4. Because you play online games

I think soon people who can’t afford or have access to internet will not find a single HD game to play as most games are now built to rely on internet. It’s annoying but it’s not all bad. Anyways, if you are into games that require internet, then don’t moan over that notification message that your data has been exhausted.

5. Because you download and upload

I have met a few persons who felt uploading doesn’t eat up data. Well, it does just like downloading. The difference is that in one you are receiving and the other you are sending but they both require data for transmission. Constantly viewing and uploading images or videos to Facebook and other social media networks may be the reason why your data can’t survive through its validity period.

6. Because you stream

YouTube is the place to kill boredom or learn something. It offers comic videos, educational stuff, music videos, sports highlights and other good stuff, all for free! Wait, your data pays for you. If you are a fellow YouTube addict then you’ve got to stop crying over your data running out fast.

7. Because you share your data

Data sharing can happen either through text /USSD code from your carrier or through tethering/hotspot. It’s easier to know the amount of data you are gifting to someone if you use your network provider, but through tethering/hotspot you may not know how the other person or device is using up your data. I remember a colleague I shared my data with through hotspot. His computer kept trying to upgrade to windows 10 with my hard bought data!

8. Because someone is stealing your data

Okay, I don’t want you getting paranoid and looking at everyone around you as data thief. The mobile hotspot in your phone settings is for sharing data and if you unknowingly enable it and it is not password protected, just about anyone can connect to your device and use up your data. Always ensure your mobile hotspot is password protected and turned off when not in use. I am not ruling out the chances of someone picking your phone and using up your data.

9. Because you chose the wrong plan

As a blogger I know I need to be online for the most part of the day. I took out time to monitor my usage, the places i often go, and my internet needs before I settled for my current data subscription. You too need to measure your internet usage and needs before choosing a data plan otherwise you may end up spending more money on subscription. You also have to bear in mind how much you are willing to spend on subscription, monthly and even yearly and then settle for the network provider that fits in your budget and tat also offers the data speed and coverage you need so that you wont have to do another subscription as you go from one place to another for work or pleasure.

4 Cool Things You Probably Never Knew Your Android Phone Could Do

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies – Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival.

Check out the things that you can do with it:-

1. Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday.

Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock.

Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other ‘ remote ‘ for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk)…

2. Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#

Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery.

This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

3. Make your phone snappy with faster animations

One of the most common complaints about Android is “lagginess.” For whatever reason Google has never been able to get Android on the same buttery smooth level as iOS or even Windows Phone. In the last few versions they have made some serious improvements, but if you still feel like your phone is a little laggy there is a trick for speeding things up. Google has hidden some secret developer options inside the Settings. Inside the secret developer options is settings for animation and transition speed. Here’s how to speed things up.

– Open Settings > About phone
– Scroll down and tap on “Build number” 7 times
– Now go back to Settings and you should see new “Developer options”
– Adjust the window and transition animation scales to .5x or turn them off completely

4. Locate and wipe your lost phone

Losing your phone is one of the worst things that can happen. These devices contain sensitive information and private data. If your phone falls into the wrong hands it could put you in a world of trouble. There are apps you can download to help in the event of a lost phone, but in order for them to work you need to have them installed before something bad happens. Luckily there is a built-in way to find your lost phone and even wipe all of your personal data.

– Double-check to make sure Android Device Manager is installed
– Go to google.com/android/devicemanager
– Select your phone from the menu
– Now you can see the location, ring it, lock it, or erase It

Read Jide Kosoko’s Tribute To His Late Wife, Henrietta Kosoko

Veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Jide Kosoko has penned a moving tribute to his late wife, Henrietta Kosoko who departed this earth last week.

The late actress has since been buried in her hometown. Jide, moved by the tragedy that befell him making a total of three wives that have been taken away from him by death wrote:

“I find it disheartening that my treasured wife passed away at R-Jolad hospital. It was a terrible shock because the sickness was so brief and never looked like a terminal one.

My darling Henrietta was not only a wonderful wife and mother but she was my meticulous partner in my profession as well as housekeeper and homemaker.

She was a cheerful, friendly person and made many warm friends.

Rita seldom, if ever criticized any person. Instead, she preferred to refer to their good qualities. My wife was the soul of honesty.

She would never shade the truth no matter what the consequences. It is difficult for me to estimate Rita.

She departs this sinful word with a substantial proportion of me. We did not only fall in love but also built our relationship and were also fond of ourselves till death.

She inspired me in ways I cannot explain. I have lost a worthy helpmate but I have nothing but happy memories of her in this world.

Adieu Henrietta Kosoko. I sorrow now for my beloved wife but the burden has been lessened by the many kindness shown my family and me .

'I Did Not Know I Was HIV Positive Before I Had S*x With Her – RĂ¡pe Suspect '

Serious concern has been raised on the health status of a 12-year old female rape victim in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State, as one of the two suspects arrested by the state police command in connection with the case, one Emmanuel Nwachukwu, has confessed to testing positive of HIV/ AIDS after being screened by doctors in a public hospital in the state.

Nwachukwu, a 52-year-old man and a builder by profession, stated this while being paraded by the police in Minna along with the second suspect, Chinedu Andrew (22).

The two suspects were accused of raping a Primary Six pupil, Bright (not real name), whose mother is said to be a close family friend to the wife of the first suspect and a neighbour to both suspects.

According to Nwachukwu, “I have tested positive to HIV/AIDS, but before the test was conducted, I did not know I had the virus.”

He said he did not rape the girl, but made love with her, adding: “She told me she was about 15 years old.” He further stated that he was married and blessed with four children.

Giving an insight into how he got involved with the rape victim, the suspect said: “One afternoon in November 2015, Bright came to my residence when I lay on my bed .

“She climbed the bed and was touching me. I asked what her problem was because I saw her as a young girl, but she responded that I would not understand. She kept on playing with me and when I could no longer hold myself, I made love to her.”

The suspect further explained that when he realised that the girl was wayward, “I started telling her that I was going to report her to her mother but she responded that she was going to tell her mother that I was the one that had been making love to her.”

Also, the second suspect, Andrew, confessed to defiling the young girl but claimed that she agreed to be his girlfriend when he informed her that he was aware of her love affairs with the first suspect, who happened to be the father of his bosom friend.

The SSS2 student narrated his story thus: “I used to see Bright with Oga Emma (Nwachukwu) sometimes in his house. One day, I asked her what she was doing with Oga Emma as I was always seeing them together.

“I advised her against dating a man old enough to be her father and she replied that it was the man that was pestering her for s*x.”

Andrew added that no sooner had he given the advice to the victim than she started touching him in some sensitive parts of his body, after which he quickly stripped his clothes and had carnal knowledge of her.

Andrew said that his love making sessions with Bright continued, but that did not stop him from revealing the first suspect’s escapades with the young girl to his son. This, he stated, made Nwachukwu unhappy.

“It was Oga Emma who went and informed Bright’s mother that I was sleeping with her daughter. This made the woman to report the case at the police station and I was arrested. I felt I had not done anything to warrant being arrested by the police because I felt I was innocent as the girl voluntarily agreed that I should be her boyfriend. I also told the police that I was not the only one sleeping with the girl and mentioned Oga Emma’s name.”

When Crime Reports contacted the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, he confirmed the incident, saying that the suspects would be charged to court, as investigations into the case had been concluded. He however refused to talk on the health status of the first suspect.
