Arsenal has signed midfielder Granit Xhaka, the team's first addition to the squad in the transfer window.

The 23-year-old midfielder joins the Gunners from Borussia Monchengladbach after making 140 appearances and captaining the Bundesliga outfit.
Xhaka will join up with his new Arsenal teammates after playing at the European Championship with Switzerland.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says "we have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad."

After flying into London on Friday, Xhaka finalised a transfer to the north London club and the Switzerland international has already spoken of his admiration for his new manager.

‘He’s a legend for me; Xhaka said of Wenger to Blick.

used to play on the Playstation with him as manager.

Today, he is allowed to train me.
Xhaka becomes Arsenal’s third most expensive signing ever, after Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, but it’s clear his feet are still firmly on the ground.
On his first contact with Wenger, Xhaka said: ‘A year ago, I was almost speechless when he called.’
